Development of dish-based population-specific food frequency questionnaire for dietary assessments in Afghanistan

Purpose: Dietary intake assessment has an essential role in chronic disease studies and general public health outcomes. To measure dietary intakes epidemiologic studies, various methods are used. Among them, food frequency questionnaires (FFQs) can provide useful measures of intake. This study aimed to report the development a population-specific dish-based questionnaire (DFQ) assess long-term usual Afghanistan. Design/Methodology/Approach: We considered Willet format followed these steps; listing commonly consumed Afghani foods, determining groups, defining portion sizes, response options for each item. We prepared comprehensive list foods dishes used Afghanistan. categorized items into eight major groups. Portion sizes mixed were defined based on most understandable item among Afghan population. The separately row against list. Findings: developed new DFQ Afghanistan containing 103 or dishes, which be as instrument well diet-disease associations Originality/Value: This is first ever-developed tool Afghanistan.
